CEP 810 - Teaching for Understanding with Computers

Spring 2009

Instructor: Carolyn McCarthy

The focus of this first course in the series for technology certification was to increase our technological skillset, provide opportunities for us to integrate technology and Web 2.0 tools into teaching, and collaborate with others to discuss the pros and cons of using technology in teaching and learning.

During the course, I researched the benefits of interactive whiteboards in educational settings (remember, it was 2009).  Click here to read my analysis of this technological tool (PDF).

Individual assignments included developing instructional units on various features of common applications while varying pedagogy to increase student-directed learning. We also worked in a collaborative/team environment using blogs, Skype, and Google Docs to complete a team research presentation on the benefits of utilizing technology in high schools.  Click here for a look at our Pro-technology Presentation (PDF).

CEP 811 - Adapting Innovative Technologies in Education

Spring 2009

Instructor: Tammy Maginity

This second course in the series provided opportunities for us to create a website, use FTP protocol, and create instructional units in the following formats:

  >StAIR - Stand Alone Instructional Resource

  >WebQuest - an web-based activity where students gather, organize, synthesize,
    and examine/evaluate their findings

My StAIR project (created in PowerPoint) Where Did My Files Go? provides a simple approach to understanding file management and the relationship between electronic resources and network infrastructures.

My WebQuest, You Be the Judge! is a web-based unit about preventing plagiarism, comprehending copyrights, and citing sources.

CEP 812 - Applying Educational Technology to Problems

Spring 2010

Instructor: Tammy Maginity

As the final course in the series for technology certification, the emphasis was placed on using technology to address problems, or opportunities for improvement, in instructional settings.

As a TechQuest, I outlined how to utilize teacher websites to enhance school/home communication, and summarized an implementation and rollout plan for a website management initiative in our local school district. Click here to view my TechQuest blog on this topic.
